Units in the $387 million Astro Japan Property Group surged on Friday after chairman Allan McDonald said the board had "commenced investigating" whether to sell some or all of its properties into a new Japanese listed trust.

He warned the investigations were "very preliminary" with "many significant valuation, commercial and legal issues which are yet to be considered.
