Voters, not ICAC, should judge the business of politics

For all the lurid inquisition before ICAC, it is hard to conclude that Ms Berejiklian is guilty of criminal “corruption” for personal gain as ordinary people define it.

As NSW premier, Gladys Berejiklian ought to have publicly revealed that she was personally involved with disgraced former Wagga Liberal MP Daryl Maguire, in line with the NSW Parliament’s ministerial code of conduct for managing conflict of interests.

As embarrassing as such transparency may have been for the intensely private former premier, it would have avoided the most prurient aspects of her two-day appearance before the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.
