An accountable, data-driven administration and service-based culture built up over a decade is why the Berejiklian government has managed the pandemic without resorting to risk-averse eliminationism.
Pru GowardColumnistPandemic management is not a practised art, and the repeatedly unheeded warnings of international health committees set up to monitor the risks only go to show that human leadership rarely looks beyond its own lived experience. If it hasn’t happened in their lifetime, then it won’t happen.
So, the pandemic has been a unique opportunity to test different approaches, from allowing the virus to have its way with all and sundry to the elimination method.
