TNT staff feel first effects of takeover

TNT Ltd's global head office has become the first major casualty of the $2 billion takeover by the Dutch postal and telecommunications group KPN, with 80 administrative staff losing their jobs.

Mr David Mortimer, the chief executive of the combined TNT-KPN express freight and logistics venture in Australia, Asia and the Americas, said yesterday that the cutbacks were part of a "sensible rationalisation" of the domestic organisation.
