Quantum Energy (QTM)
Trevor Hoey
Quantum Energy is one of the few stocks that have experienced significant share price gains in the past 12 months. The company's share price has increased from a low of 4¢ in March 2008 to a high of 13¢ in February. Quantum is a leading manufacturer of advanced renewable solar energy hot water, pool and building heating products. Heating hot water accounts for up to 30 per cent of the average home's energy bill. Consequently, producing hot water is the largest source of greenhouse emissions in the home. Quantum's range of solar energy systems and heat pumps has domestic and commercial applications, with the latter having been specifically tailored to the needs of large facilities such as shopping centres and hotels. Quantum has been awarded contracts in Thailand, the Middle East and, most recently, the newly built Marriott Hotel in the Philippines. Quantum's interim result featured a fourfold increase in revenues and a profit of $12.2 million, compared with a loss of 10.1 million in the previous corresponding period. Government incentives should continue to stimulate demand for most of Quantum's products.
