Perrottet’s budget numbers go backwards before election

The NSW budget outlook has worsened, with the government splashing cash on cost-of-living measures and disaster relief even as collections from payroll tax and GST rise and coal royalties soar.
As the NSW Coalition prepares to ask voters for a fourth term two months from now, Treasurer Matt Kean says the state is still on track to produce a surplus by 2024-25, despite a dramatic deterioration in next year’s budget.
