Cash-strapped New Cap Reinsurance would have little choice but to run down its book if it was unable to attract a buyer or secure an equity partner, stockbroking analysts said yesterday.

The listed reinsurer, which faces a severe capital shortage and blowout in losses for calendar 1998, is hoping one of the major international reinsurers will come to its rescue.
