Hurricane-hit New Cap Reinsurance Corp is attempting to offload its troubled insurance book and has approached three of its main industry rivals with takeover proposals.

New Cap is understood to still be in talks with at least one major reinsurer and hopes to finalise a sale before it releases its audited results for the year to December.
