Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has tapped local mayor Nathan Conroy as the Liberal Party’s candidate for the “high stakes” Dunkley byelection.

Cr Conroy on Sunday paid tribute to the Victorian seat’s “fearless and tireless” previous Labor member Peta Murphy, who died from breast cancer last month, and outlined his desire to campaign on cost-of-living pressures.
