From outgoing WA Liberal Premier Colin Barnett blaming a record 16 per cent swing against his government solely on an "it's time" factor, to federal Finance Minister Mathias Cormann defending the WA Liberal Party's disastrous preference swap deal with the nativist One Nation party, the gap between excuses and the result has become a yawning political chasm.
