The NSW state corruption watchdog's independence is under threat while the people it potentially investigates determine its budget, the state auditor-general says.

Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party leader Robert Borsak said Premier Gladys Berejiklian could seek "payback" on the watchdog by slashing its budget after it forced her to reveal her secret, intimate relationship with the disgraced MP at the centre of its latest probe.
