Suspended NSW Labor general secretary Kaila Murnain was accused of “fake tears” over a “completely fabricated” story, when she broke down at a donation inquiry on Thursday, in a torrid cross-examination by counsel for Holding Redlich senior partner Ian Robertson.

Tony McInerney, SC, accused Ms Murnain of deciding it was easy to throw Mr Robertson, the legal adviser for the NSW Labor Party, “under the bus” with a wildly implausible story to the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
