Three people in NSW were confirmed dead, and up to seven emergency warnings issued for the bushfires in East Gippsland, Victoria, on the first day of 2020.

Police found unidentified bodies in burnt-out vehicles in Yatte Yattah, west of Lake Conjola, and at the Sussex Inlet on Wednesday; ambulance officers located the third body.
