Former Indigenous Australians minister Ken Wyatt has urged Liberal MPs to split with Peter Dutton and support the Voice to parliament, escalating criticism of his former party over the looming referendum.

A day after Liberal MP Julian Leeser quit the opposition frontbench to support the Yes case on Indigenous constitutional recognition, senior moderate Simon Birmingham confirmed he intended to stay in the shadow cabinet, indicating support for the party’s No position.
