Winter COVID-19 case surge sparks $1b vaccine spend

Ahead of an expected surge in omicron infections this winter and Australia’s first serious flu season since the start of the pandemic, the Morrison government will spend another $1 billion on COVID-19 vaccines.
Tuesday’s federal budget includes $6 billion in funding for a national winter response plan, designed to provide a co-ordinated national approach to managing the dual spread of flu and COVID-19.
