Why DOGE is a guide to what Dutton should not do

The punters don’t really want a radically smaller government or fewer public servants. What they want is for the government to be effective and to pay as little tax as possible to make that happen.

One of the more unfortunate tendencies in Australian politics is to import mindlessly whatever American political fad happens to be floating around at the time.

Albanese’s HECS debt forgiveness and “Future Made in Australia” policies were shameless rip-offs of similar schemes introduced by the Biden Administration – but even less defensible given our very different context.
