We’re buying hybrids instead of EVs, and it’s a problem for Labor
Sales of electric vehicles have stalled as cash-strapped households opt for hybrids, according to figures that suggest consumer preferences may force Labor to temper demands from green groups for hard-line ultra-low emissions vehicle reforms.
Propelled by a surge in cost-of-living concerns, higher interest rates and fuel prices, buyers drove growth in hybrid vehicle sales at three times the pace of EVs in the third quarter. Unlike pure EVs, hybrids are vehicles with both combustion and electric motors.
