‘We did as we were asked’: PM defends the Voice a year on

Anthony Albanese has brushed off last year’s heavy defeat of the Indigenous Voice to parliament referendum, saying he was simply doing the bidding of senior Indigenous leaders by seeing it through to a vote.

Speaking a year to the day the referendum was defeated, the prime minister on Monday also dared Opposition Leader Peter Dutton to follow through on his promise to – if elected – hold a referendum next year to recognise Indigenous people in the constitution.
