West Australian Transport Minister Troy Buswell has cleared the way for private companies to tender for the long-awaited Esperance port upgrade.

Companies have until March 1 to register their interest in participating, but the government has not given a firm time frame for the development, which will add 10 million tonnes of iron ore export capacity.
