Victoria on brink of new COVID-19 wave as spring racing kicks off

Victoria is facing down a new COVID-19 wave at the same time as tens of thousands of tourists flock to its capital for the spring racing carnival, health authorities have warned.
The state recorded an increase of 24.7 per cent on reported COVID-19 cases this week with more than 8500 new infections confirmed, while hospitalisation numbers also grew by more than 20 per cent to 172.
