Here's a recap of the key points from Victoria's press conference this afternoon:
- From midnight tomorrow, metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire, north of Melbourne, will return to stage three restrictions for the next six weeks.
- That means there are only four reasons to leave home: shopping for supplies, compassionate care, exercise and for work or study.
- Small gatherings of friends and family at home will not be allowed.
- Cafes, restaurants and bars will only be allowed to serve takeaway food and drinks.
- Businesses including gyms, beauty clinics, tattoo parlours and cinemas must shut down again.
- Only students in Year 11 and 12 will return to classrooms when school holidays end on Sunday.
- Premier Daniel Andrews says he's spoken to Prime Minister Scott Morrison about the possibility of extending JobKeeper for Victorians who suffer financial hardship.
- Victoria's Health Minister Jenny Mikakos says elective surgery will still be allowed to continue.
- The Premier said six weeks was needed to collect accurate data about whether the virus can be brought under control.
