US can have Downer but not the cables: Morrison
Scott Morrison ruled out handing the Americans classified diplomatic cables or anything else that may harm the national interest, as the Trump administration seeks Australia's co-operation to torpedo the Mueller probe into Russian interference.
But Mr Morrison said Australia would co-operate with any request by the US to interview former foreign minister Alexander Downer, who sparked the inquiry by passing on information he gleaned in 2016 when he was Australia's high commissioner to the UK.
