Expert panel to lead COVID-19 inquiry, but no royal commission

The Albanese government is expected to announce on Thursday an expert panel to lead an inquiry into Australia’s COVID-19 response.
The commission of inquiry, which sources said would be conducted by an economist, an epidemiologist and a public administration expert, falls short of the “royal commission or some form of inquiry that will need to happen”, which Anthony Albanese promised when in opposition.
