Taxpayers fund two stadiums to secure Tassie AFL team
Federal taxpayers will fork out about $300 million to ensure Tasmania secures an AFL team, with the Albanese government to facilitate the construction of a new stadium in Hobart and upgrade the existing facility in Launceston.
With three marginal seats in play in the state’s north, Mr Albanese made a surprise announcement on Friday that the federal government would match the state government and contribute $65 million to upgrade the football stadium in Launceston, where Hawthorn currently plays a handful of home games each year.
