Liberal Senator and former minister Arthur Sinodinos will replace Joe Hockey as Australia's next ambassador to the United States while cabinet minister Mitch Fifield will be given the plum New York posting of Australia's ambassador to the United Nations.
Senator Sinodinos, who returned to politics recently are fighting cancer and was ecpeted to be put back in Cabinet, will instead replace Mr Hockey in Washington towards the end of this year.
