Bill Shorten has demanded the states “step up” and help ease the pressure on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, warning the Commonwealth alone cannot provide the reboot required to keep it sustainable.
In what threatens to spark a funding row between the Albanese government and the Labor premiers, Mr Shorten accused the states of cost-shifting onto the scheme and suggested the NDIS funding agreements between the Commonwealth and the states would have to be renegotiated when they expire towards the end of this year.
