Russian spy plot arrests spur hostage fears

Australians visiting Russia are at heightened risk of being taken hostage by President Vladimir Putin’s regime following last week’s arrest of two alleged Russian spies in Brisbane, an expert says.
With Russia turning “hostage diplomacy” into an art form, Australian army private Kira Korolev, 40, and her husband Igor, 62, could one day form part of a prisoner swap, Australian National University Russia analyst Matthew Sussex says.
