Politically speaking, it’s not so easy being Green any more

Holding Labor to impossible progressive standards without having to be accountable for outcomes is no longer working for the Greens.

Jim Henson (through Kermit the Frog) told us, “it’s not easy being green”. Politically speaking, however, it has seemed exactly that. Attack Labor from the left for not being progressive enough, without having to ever convince the majority. Hold the party to impossible standards without being accountable for any outcomes. All the whinging with none of the working.

In Canberra’s own version of The Muppet Show, it’s a dream to be a Green. But last weekend, the Green dream seemed to get a little darker as the votes were counted for those sensible and sustainable Subaru drivers in our bush capital.
