Political class must heed lessons of Trump’s comeback

Will our leaders heed the warning that the best defence against populism is to take the hard decisions needed to restore the prosperity most Australians seek?

As 2024 draws to a close, the biggest story of the year is Donald Trump’s comeback. Over the Christmas break, our political class should reflect on the resurgence of populism in the US this year. They should consider what needs to be done in 2025 to return Australia to prosperity and stem the rising tide of populism in this country.

Trump’s stunning US presidential election victory in November was fuelled by economic and social discontent among American voters, who are aggrieved at high inflation and uncontrolled immigration.
