The federal government is preparing to roll out billions of dollars more in economic assistance as it tries to prop up the hospitality, tourism and other sectors that have been hit hardest by the coronavirus catastrophe.

As it worked on the package, another federal MP, Queensland Liberal National Party Senator Susan McDonald, was confirmed as having the virus, joining her colleague, the Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.
