PM 'supercharges' the safety net to aid coronavirus jobless

Dole payments will be temporarily doubled to up to $1100 a fortnight for workers who lose their jobs or have their income severely cut back because of coronavirus under the Morrison government's second stimulus package.

Sole traders, full-time employees and casual workers, including those who have been temporarily stood down from their jobs, will be eligible for a six-month "coronavirus supplement", which will cost the budget $14.1 billion over the forward estimates as several hundred thousand people join the unemployment queue.
