PM freezes beer tax as cost-of-living election looms

The government has announced a freeze on beer excise for the next two years in a further sign that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is about to pull the trigger for the federal election.

Only last month, Treasurer Jim Chalmers defended the scheduled tax increase that hit in early February as adding less than 1¢ to the cost of a schooner.
