Ploy to keep national cabinet secret ‘a convenient lie’
Lawyers have accused the government of trying to turn a lie into law and hit out at moves to cloak the national cabinet in secrecy after a Federal Court judge found Prime Minister Scott Morrison was wrong to suggest the body was exempt from information disclosure laws.
The criticism comes amid concern over government secrecy generally, and more specifically, how bureaucrats regularly fail to comply with their obligations under the nation’s freedom of information (FOI) framework.
