Nuclear subs are about peace, not war, say Marles and Dutton
Australia’s decision to acquire nuclear-powered submarines from next decade onwards was more about helping keep the region peaceful and prosperous, than going to war, Defence Minister Richard Marles said.
As details of the subs plan were leaked, Mr Marles, who is acting prime minister while Anthony Albanese is abroad, said it was difficult to overstate the importance of Australia becoming just the seventh nation in the world to operate nuclear-powered submarines.
