The catalyst for this week’s federal takeover of the NSW Liberal Party was last month’s bungle over local government election nominations, but the frustrations with the division stem back to a belief it cost Tony Abbott victory in 2010.

And the fear this time was that unless the division was cleaned out and fixed up, history may repeat.
