NSW reported 415 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 and four deaths. The NSW Premier has conceded that this state is unlikely to ever achieve zero transmission. Despite being forced to extend a lockdown to the whole state, the Premier insists she is going to loosen restrictions on the vaccinated next month. NSW police will launch an unprecedented crackdown on compliance on Monday, including thousands of police officers, the Australian Defence Force, 1400 highway patrol officers.
Victoria recorded 25 new cases and Victorian government sources said a two-week extension of the already extended lockdown was likely to be under consideration.
The ACT had two more local cases, after another record day of testing, bringing the total active cases to nine.
Queensland had no new local infections but has effectively closed its border bubble with NSW, saying it will intercept every car trying to cross the border.
The WA Premier Mark McGowan said he planned to keep a hard border with NSW until cases head towards zero and at least until the end of 2021.
