NSW byelection poses first test for Albanese v Morrison

A federal byelection in the marginal NSW seat of Eden-Monaro, caused by the early retirement of Labor MP Mike Kelly, is expected within months.

The first test of the federal government's response to the coronavirus crisis could be just months away with a federal byelection in the marginal NSW seat of Eden-Monaro, caused by the expected retirement of Labor MP Mike Kelly.

Mr Kelly, who has been fighting chronic health problems dating back to his army service in Iraq last decade, is expected to announce his resignation later this week from the southern NSW seat.
