NRL executives lobbied Prime Minister Anthony Albanese weeks before he claimed in parliament that lotteries caused more gambling harm than bookmakers as justification for not pursuing a total ban on online gambling advertising.
Shortly after the meeting and Mr Albanese’s remarks, NRL chairman Peter V’landys used the same statistics to make the same claim, which has left some gambling experts perplexed.
