The newly appointed director of the National Portrait Gallery has pledged to rally philanthropists and Rich Listers for renewed support of the Canberra institution, promising to be a champion of Australian art on the world stage.
Bree Pickering, named as successor to former director Karen Quinlan on Tuesday, has been director of the Murray Art Museum Albury since 2016.
