A push to permanently ease share market disclosure rules has hit a hurdle, as crossbencher Rex Patrick seeks to use his influence in the Senate to close a loophole that allows private companies to keep their financial affairs secret.

If Senator Patrick is successful, companies connected to some of Australia’s highest profile business names, including Alex Waislitz, Lindsay Fox and Malcolm Turnbull, would be forced to disclose their financial reports.
