Man’s win over ‘affront to justice’ prompts protections for judiciary

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus will step in to close a legal loophole that left some federal judges personally liable if they are successfully sued for their conduct on the bench.

The move comes after a father of two – who was jailed for contempt by Queensland Federal Circuit Court judge Salvatore Vasta during a 2018 divorce case – was awarded $309,450 in damages.
