Liberal council bungle could hit federal seats

The NSW Liberal Party’s councils nomination bungle has dealt a blow to its chances in several federal marginal seats, including two teal conquests that were once party heartland.

Former Liberal MP Jason Falinski, who lost the Sydney northern beaches seat of Mackellar to teal candidate Sophie Scamps in 2022, lamented the council elections as a “lost opportunity” to highlight failures with community independents.
