Labor premier backs Dutton’s plan to slash immigration
Queensland Labor Premier Steven Miles has backed Peter Dutton’s calls for deep cuts to Australia’s migration intake, saying the plan would ease the population squeeze and allow the housing industry to keep pace with huge growth.
As the Albanese government pushed back on the opposition leader’s plan as excessive and reckless, Mr Miles supported demands for cuts to net overseas migration and permanent arrivals – despite warnings such moves would badly hurt international education and the health and aged care sectors.
