‘Have you got Tourette’s?’: PM apologises for accusation

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has accused shadow treasurer Angus Taylor of having Tourette’s syndrome during a heated housing policy debate.

Albanese was asked if he would “rule out any changes to the tax treatment of the owner-occupied family home and to negative gearing” by Taylor in question time.

After interruptions from the house and a prompt from the speaker to answer the question, Albanese blamed the opposition for blocking Labor’s housing policy.

“We have all of our tax policies out there and all of the ones that they [the Coalition] want to talk about are things that we are not doing.

“We’re talking about what we are doing, some of which they are blocking over in the other chamber, including whether it is housing policy or whether it is tax policy.

“This nonsense that they carry on with ... Have you got Tourette’s or something? You know, you just sit there, babble, babble, babble.”

Albanese then withdrew his comment four times and apologised.
