Peter Tinley began drawing up plans for Australian troops to take part in the war on terror just hours after al-Qaeda operatives flew planes into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon.

Mr Tinley, now a West Australian State Labor MP, was second-in-charge of the elite Perth-based Special Air Service Regiment with responsibility for operations at the time of September 11, 2001, attacks.
