Has Labor accidentally made a good argument to cap compulsory super?

Labor’s economics team is arguing $3 million in super is more than enough for a dignified retirement. If so, why force people to save more?

In his bid to double the taxes on superannuation balances above $3 million, Treasurer Jim Chalmers may have made the best argument to date to curtail the compulsory nature of superannuation.

Late last year, Labor passed legislation which, for the first time, articulated a clear objective of Australia’s $4.3 trillion super system.
