Government raises white flag on $100m-a-year quarantine levy
The Morrison government has raised the white flag on plans to impose a $100 million-a-year biosecurity levy on incoming vessels and cargo after two years of stiff industry resistance, two ministers and poor policy development.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Agriculture Department assured that the decision to scrap the levy, which was supposed to fund an enhanced biosecurity regime, would not weaken quarantine protections.
