Fire toll expected to soar, as authorities prepare for new onslaught
One person is dead and another is missing in NSW and hundreds are waiting to hear whether their homes survived the weekend's horrific bushfires, as emergency services tried to take advantage of cooler weather before conditions deteriorate again on Friday.
Photos of a completely destroyed Mount Selwyn Snow Resort emerged on Monday after at least 60 homes were confirmed to have been destroyed in Saturday's blazes. Authorities in NSW expect that number will grow by hundreds in coming days. Since New Year's Eve, 576 homes have been lost.
