For a bloke who has been in parliament for 23 years, a minister for much of the time, and who is aspiring to become prime minister in a matter of months, much about the opposition leader remains unknown to the broader electorate.

When all and sundry were jumping ugly on Anthony Albanese over his planned purchase of a $4.3 million beach house on the NSW Central Coast, one criticism was that the imagery was at odds with the prime minister’s carefully cultivated narrative.

In the lead-up to the 2022 election, Albanese, as leader of the opposition, was not that well known, especially outside his native NSW, despite being in the parliament since 1996.
