As millions of Australians sit down for ham or seafood at Christmas celebrations this year, fast food giant KFC will once again be at the heart of an unusual festive tradition.

The result of a successful marketing campaign offering chicken as a substitute for traditional roast turkey, Japanese consumers have flocked to buy fried chicken on December 25 since the mid-1970s.
